Spring is a season of fresh beginnings; budding trees and blooming flowers, but also a time for fun trends to perk up. Fringe is a definite trend for spring, and, by no means, a new trend, there sure are a lot of new ways to wear it. This fun embellishment is turning up on everything from sweaters to hemlines on pants, skirts, and dresses, creating pieces that are perfect for staying on-trend this season. Fringe has seen a resurgence in popularity and will always be an eye-catcher, in varying lengths and styles, with something to suit everyone.

This trend, as with any trend, is to adapt it to your personal style. I am by no means a "trendy" person. My wardrobe is built on classics that rarely go out of style, but when I want to update my look and interpret a trend into my day-to-day wardrobe, I have 5 general guidelines I follow. Take a look at this edit and you'll definitely understand why fringe is a trend worth trying.

1- Less Is More: The key to wearing fringe is simple, wear one piece at a time. Chances are, that item is statement enough. Keeping fringe in the same color family as your sweater will minimize any added bulk and streamline your silhouette. MARGARET O'LEARY offers a refined and unfussy approach to the trend. The eyelash fringe trimming the edges of this textured pullover is subtle and adds dimension in all the right ways.

2- Go Modern: Wear fringe in a modern way and don't try to compete with it as new shapes will keep you looking clean and polished. The split-back on MICHAEL STARS sweater is what makes it contemporary and fresh, while the long fringe keeps it carefree. Why complicate things, this sweater is effortless to style...in fact, it basically does the work for you.

3- Expect The Unexpected: Fashion trends change constantly, and designers like to reinvent them to keep looks current and unpredictable. Fringe adds a playful energy to wardrobe basics, and I love the shaggy fringe at the hemline of these fun and flirty A.Z.I pants; it's chic and unusual and will pair well with most tops in your closet.

4- When/How Will I Wear It?: It's important to look at a trend with a critical eye. Just because something is "so in right now," doesn't mean it is going to look good on you. However, the casual vibe of this CURIO v-neck pullover is so comfortable, you may not want to take it off. This versatile sweater can be worn on its own, or styled smartly with a (white) long-sleeve shirt underneath. And, how cute would this be as a little beach cover-up? Start wearing it sooner than later.

5- Does It Fit My Personal Style?: Am I sure that adding this to my wardrobe will help me create a closet that works for me? The only way to know is to experiment...and have fun. Nothing can replace the LBD, and BAILEY/44 is a brand women can count on for non-stop styles. You don't always have to make a bold statement wearing fringe, which makes this dress perfect for daytime or nighttime, year-round. How could you possibly go wrong with a classic?

Fringe will never go out of style and can be the perfect addition to refresh your spring wardrobe. As with any trend, don't overdo it, as full-on fringe can be a bit overwhelming.  At first glance, you may assume fringe detailing is bold, flirty, and draws a lot of attention to itself, and if those words don't describe your personal style, that's ok. But consider this; fringe is not a passing fad, in fact, it's enjoying its stay. It can elevate something comfy, tone down something dressy, be elegant with a touch of femininity, and as far as trends go, has a lot of potential. Fringe is easy to blend into any wardrobe and can be styled in a more conservative way and still be on-trend. It's an easy-to-wear accent that everyone can enjoy. Give fringe a try...I bet anytime you wear it someone will compliment you and ask, "where did you get that?"
