There are a couple of things you can count on in fashion this time of year; great sales, (still going strong at Carabella), and navy blue starting to take center stage. Navy is one of my favorite colors because it's timeless, sophisticated, and looks good on everyone. As the kickoff color for resort-wear, navy is squarely on the agenda for spring, and for good reasons. Crisp and confident, navy is applicable for daytime or nighttime. And unlike black, which I'm getting kind of bored with, it's less harsh but just as forgiving, which makes it a universal color.

For fabulous examples of how versatile this classic color is, I pulled the latest looks from some of my favored designers, featuring interesting shapes and designs, to help you refresh and build your new-season wardrobe. Scroll down for some outfit inspiration.

Comfort meets style in this go-anywhere top from JUDE. From the front, the solid navy blue top looks a bit typical, but when you turn around, the striped back delivers the style. How cute is that exposed zipper? The flattering scoop neckline, hi-low hem, and wide grey banding is a fresh approach and makes this top perfect for casual wear. Would look great with denim too.

If you're a fan of BAILEY/44, (and who isn't), this top is a classic. Cut long and lean, the soft, stretchy fabric means this top will keep its shape. I'm still loving the cold-shoulder look because it's complimentary for all body types.  There isn't another color that stripes as well as navy blue, as evidenced in this trendy style.

WHITE+WARREN gives the classic boxy sweater an update with functional side-button detailing. Perfect for wearing over a tank, undo the buttons to expose more of the color. Wonderfully relaxed and sporty, this cotton crew is the ultimate off-duty look. I love that this is a comfortable alternative to cashmere.

A navy top is a classic addition to any wardrobe, and this design from BAILEY/44 is sleek and chic. The super-lightweight pullover features an asymmetrical cutout detail at the shoulder that is sure to turn heads. Enjoy the comfort and fashion-forward appeal of this striking top. Add an infinity scarf to change up to look with just a hint of an exposed shoulder showing.

Flirty shoulder-baring cutouts and an all-around ruffle combine to create a stunning top in soft navy chambray. DONNA DEGNAN aces modern elegance with just the right amount of feminine and chic. The unexpected surprise I discovered is that you can wear this top two ways. When I put it on the first time, my arms slipped over shoulder ruffle and it became a sleeveless top. Though I knew this is meant to be a cold-shoulder design, the fabric is soft enough for the ruffle drape gently under your arm. I love a twofer!

No matter what your personal style is, navy will fit in perfectly. If you love the color as much as I do, stock up on it now. Navy is a year-round color, always in style, and a great neutral. On a final note, my color crush for navy is mint. I showed it in small doses with a layering tank, accessories, and even my nail polish for something a little unexpected.
